Are you a Prospective Motivator Teacher, Motivator Teacher, or are you not one of them? And is your school also a Prospective Motivator School, Motivator School or your school is also not part of the above school? Do you know that for the next two academic years all schools will implement the Prototype Curriculum until everything has become the "motivator". Later, at the same year, all of them metamorphosed into "Freedom Learning Curriculum". You are forced to be ready and to implement this new face of the curriculum. Whatever, the learning methodology will mostly adopted from Project-Based Learning. You will be familiar with the flow of this method later.
According to the "George Lucas Foundation", there are 3 (three) important things that you must do to design the teaching and learning process within the Project-Based Learning framework. They are, "Start with simple questions", "Design a project plan", and "Arrange a schedule of activities". For those, who still confused about what Project-Based Learning is? or how to use Project-Based Learning applications?, you can follow this way. Many things is dancing in your mind because Project-Based Learning is very different from the learning experiences you have or ever done so far. You need time to understand it and how to do it. Just skip it all first, slowly "cewangputih" will lead you into understanding Project-Based Learning. You just need to do something simple as follows:
Courtesy of Yose HendryKeep your thoughts simple then you design a lesson plan for the next semester or school year. All material is the same and there is nothing strange or new that you are not good at. The only goal you have to think is the real world. Start with the basic questions. Learning begins with essential questions that give assignments to your students in carrying out an activity. You must relate the assignment topic to their real world which is relevant and meaningful or useful for your students life with a deep investment. In a topic of learning material which you will deliver, you make a list that you think is meaningful for your students. You can also discuss with them at the beginning of the meeting each topic. You just combine your list of thoughts with the students thought.
Courtesy of Yose HendryAfter you have summarized all the relevant lists, design a project plan that will be carried out later. This lesson planning is done collaboratively with your students. You can also elaborate this concept by collaborating with teachers of other subjects and outside the school community and parents. But, at least, this collaboration is sufficient between you and your students. Thus, students are expected to feel ownership of the project. This project has an impact on the enthusiasm of your students within its implementation. You will find a new atmosphere which you may not have found before. The plan you make, must contain the rules of the game, the selection of activities that can support answering the essential questions. You do all of them by interacting with various possible subjects and knowing the tools and teaching materials which are accessible to assist the project completion.
Then, arrange a schedule of activities in completing the project you have designed collaboratively. Activities at this phase include:
- Allocating time to complete the project
- Make a deadline for the completion of the project
- Bring students to plan new ways
- Guide students as they create ways that are not related to the project
- Ask students to make an explanation about choosing a method.
Your eyes will be opened knowing that Project Based Learning is actually fun and accommodating to your students. You will see the sparkle in your students' eyes during the implementation of this project. Starting from pre, whilst and post activities. But one thing all of this, you have to be the first one to open your mind in Project Based Learning. From now on, start preparing your mind towards a curriculum style which is suitable and appropriate to modern era. Do you not feel sorry for your students when you are still dragging them with an approach which is no longer in accordance with your nature and contemporary style? It's enough that you are in the abyss of your thoughts and never drag your students who want to climb up the abyss out.
